What Should I wear for My Family Photo Session?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions that I receive from families booking photo sessions!

Here is my best advice:

Be comfortable

-Wear something that you feel like yourself in.

Dress Complementary

-Do not wear matching outfits, it can end up looking a little cheesy. 

Pick a color palette that fits your family

-I love neutral colors and earthy tones, but if bright colors are more your jam, go with it!

Avoid anything too distracting

-Avoid large or busy patterns & logos.

Pattern Creates the Palette

For this clothing grouping I used the little floral outfit to inspire my colors for the rest of the family. Be careful when picking more than one pattern that they don't clash. For this example, I have the busier floral with the simple large plaid pattern which complements each other well. The rest of the family can keep it simple with pretty solids, and that turquoise bracelet (turquoise is my favorite!).

Okay...Old Navy has a Family Matching section. They literally couldn't make this any easier! You don't want to get too matchy-matchy for your family photos. I wouldn't suggest all getting the same outfit, even though Old Navy has it available! In their family matching section they do have quite a few complementary options as well. You can also easily search clothing items by color and find a good solid color option.
